Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Suddenly on Friday, March 4, 1983 at Gladstone, Man., Lloyd Patterson, aged 70 years, of Plumas, Man.
Born October 3, 1912 in the Plumas district where he grew up. In 1939 he joined the Armed Forces and served overseas with the Winnipeg Grenadiers. He was a Japanese prisoner of war from 1941 to 1945 and spent some time in Hong Kong. Since his return to Canada, Lloyd had farmed and resided in the Plumas district.
Left to mourn his passing Are Connie Lillee of Plumas: one son Russell and wife Dorothy of Oromocto, New Brunswick; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his mother Mrs. Mary Patterson of Gladstone; four sisters, Edna Buchanan and Clara Farmer, both of Gladstone, Myrtle Hindmarsh and. Hazel Gudmanson, both of Winnipeg; also survived by Dennis and Gail Lillee and boys, of Stony Creek, Ont. Predeceased by his father Charles in 1941 and a sister Eunice.
Lloyd was a member of the Plumas Legion No. 189. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Plumas United Church with Rev. Robert Johannson officiating. Interment will follow in Plumas Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart Fund or the Canadian Diabetic Association.
