Transportation - Home Base to Hong Kong
Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

M. Hilaire Valcourt, époux, de Marguerite Rodier, Saint-Hyacinthe, est décédé à l'âge de 31 ans et 5 mois. Outre son épouse, il laisse deux filles, Francine et NIcole; deux frères, MM. Joseph Valcourt, Sainte-Rosalle, et Albert, Drummondville, ainsi que cinq soeurs, Mmes. Welly Brimblecombe (Marie), Toronto: Alphonse Beauregard(Marguerite), Saint-Hyacinthe; Mlle.s Madeleine Valcourt, Toronto: Gertrude, Saint-Hyacinthe, et Alberte, Montréal, et son père et sa mère, M. et Mme Charles Valcourt, Montréal.,BR>
Les funérailles ont eu lieu ce matin, à 10 hres, à l'église Notre- Dame-du-Rosaire, sous la direction de la maison Ubald Lalime, Inc. Le R.P. Louis-Philippe Fiset, o.p.. fit la levée du corps et chanta le service funèbre, assisté des RR. PP. Létourneau, o.p., et Bouchard, o.p., comme diacre et sous-diacre. Les porteurs, tous anciens com- battants, étaient MM. F. Raiche, L.-P. Guérard, L. Sénécal, A. Dupré, E. Masson et J. Godbout. Une délégation de soixante-dix chauffeurs de la Cie de Transport Provincial précédait le cortège.

Hilaire Valcourt, fils de Charles Valcourt et de Maria Ponton, de Montréal, est décédé mercredi le 5 décembre, à l'âge de. 31 ans et 5 mois. Un vétéran de la Grande Guerre, il était chauffeur d'autobus pour la Compagnie de Transport Provincial et habitait à 850 rue Després.
Il laisse son épouse née Marguerite Rodier, ainsi que deux filles, Francine et Nicole, de Saint-Hyacinthe, de même que ses parents, M. et Mme. Charles Valcourt, de Montréal. Deux frères et cinq soeurs lui survivent également: Joseph, de Ste-Rosalie, et Albert, de Drummondville; Mme. William Brimblecombe (Marie) et Mlle. Madeleine, de Toronto; Mme. Alphonse Beauregard (Marguerite) et Mlle. Gertrude, de Saint-Hyacinthe, et Mlle. Alberte, de Montréal.
Le corps a été exposé aux Salons Ubald Lalime, 910 Bourdages, et les funérailles ont eu lieu vendredi le 7 décembre, à 10 heures du matin, en l'Eglise Notre-Dame du Rosaire.
La levée du corps a été faite par ie R. Père Fiset, o.p.. curé de la paroisse, qui a aussi chanté le service, assisté des RR. Pères Létourneau, o.p.. et Bouchard, o.p., comme diacre et sous-diacre.
Les porteurs, tous vétérans, étaient MM. F. Raiche, L.-P. Guérard, L. Sénécal, A. Dupré, E. Masson et J. Godbout. Près de la fosse, le "Last Post" a été joué par M. L. Robitaille.
Une délégation de 70 chauffeurs de la Compagnie de Transport Provincial précédait le cortège funèbre.
