Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Mr. George (Judd) Hallada, aged 90 years, passed away peacefully at his home on January 18, 2009. He was born on July 23, 1918 in Port Arthur, Ontario. George joined the army during WWII (Winnipeg Grenadiers) and was sent off to Hong Kong. After the war was over he returned home, met and married Antoinette Caruso. George worked for Great Lakes Paper until his retirement in 1982. He was a member of the Papermakers Union Local 257 as well as a 3rd Degree Knight of the Bishop Gallagher Council 7332. At the Knights of Columbus, George enjoyed spending time with his family, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Whitefish Lake and loved to golf. He also s pent a lot of time in the backyard gardening. George was predeceased by his parents William and Louise Hallada; his wife Antoinette (Caruso); three sisters Wilda (Ross), Wiley (Wright) and Millie (Slongo); one brother William (Nonie) Hallada; brother-in-laws Elmer Ross, Norm Wright, Gino Slongo, Marino Caruso, Domenic Caruso, Henry Caruso, Tony Caruso, John Caruso and Roy Becotte; sister-in-laws Edith Becotte, Anne Mallon and Jean Caruso. He is survived by son Bill (Elaine); daughter Debbie (Ted) Park and son John (Sandra); grandchildren Nicole Massey, William Hallada, Stephanie and Cody Lenton; great grandchildren Dakota and Christina Massey; brother-in-laws Jack Mallon and Frank Littlefield; sister-in-laws Dora Littlefield, Daphane Caruso, Bonnie Caruso and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 from 7 - 9 p.m. at Jenkens Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla, V.G. at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at St. Patrick's Cathedral. Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Northern Cancer Research Foundation or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
