Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

H3003 Gordon COLE GORDON ARTHUR Cole It is with great sadness that the family of Gordon Cole announces his sudden but peaceful passing at Deer Lodge Centre on Thursday February 13, 1992.
Gordon was born in Brandon May31, 1923.
He leaves to mourn his passing wife Thelma; daughter Cheryl, son Gordon (wife Sandra)grandchildren, Phillip and Julia Cole, two sisters Dorothy Knoll and Bernice Olainar of Winnipeg, brother George (wife Dorothy) of Vancouver, B.C. Gordon has many nieces and nephews and their families to mourn his passing. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Jack and two stepbrothers, Ernie and Herman.
Honorary pallbearers will be all Hong Kong Veterans.
A very special thanks at all the staff at Deer Lodge Centre for the care and compassion that was given while he was a resident.
Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 19 at 11.00 a.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 904 Portage Ave. (Aubrey Street entrance). Padre Evisom officiating.
Gordon was a member of the Hong Kong Veterans Association and a member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Association Club 60.

Originally in the Canadian Navy Private Cole joined the Winnipeg Grenadiers three weeks before the unit left for Hong Kong. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Schar, 620 Church Avenue, Winnipeg.
