Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

The death of Edward Leo MacDonald, husband of Marie M. (Hachey) MacDonald, of 207 King Street East, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, April 27,1994. Born in Fredericton, NB, he was the son of the late Edward Leo MacDonald and Velma Murphy. Mr. MacDonald worked as a carpenter with L.E. Shaw until his retirement in 1968. He was a veteran of the Second World War, the Korean Conflict and Canadian Army serving in Canada, Far East and Continental Europe and he received a United Nations service metal. He was a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch #14 and the Buffalo Lodge. Besides his wife he is survived by seven sons, William Edward of Burlington, Ontario, Wayne Douglas of Moncton, Ronald James of Baytown, Texas, Richard Bruce of Saint John, Frank Lewis of Charlottetown, P.E.I., Kevin Norman Elwood of Saint John and Michael John of Rothesay, one step-son Norman J.S. Hachey of Toronto, Ontario, five daughters, Lois Irene (Mrs. David Evans), Esther Mae (Mrs. James Foote), Linda Ann (Mrs. Louis Doiron), Donna Lynn (Mrs. Joseph Speight) and Miss Sherry Lynn MacDonald all of Saint John, two step-daughters, Annmarie (Mrs. Howard Snodgrass) and Brenda (Mrs. David Brown) both of Saint John, two brothers Eric MacDonald of Fredericton and Beverley MacDonald of London, Ontario, one sister, Ruth (Mrs. Edward Orto) of Dartmouth, N.S., 12 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great grandchild and two step-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Laura (Patterson) MacDonald, one grandson, Michael and one brother, Ivan MacDonald.
Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, from where the service will be held on Friday, April 29,1994 at 10am. Interment in Cedar Hill Extension Field of Honor. Remembrances to the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by the family. Visiting on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9pm.
