Members of 'C' Force from the East travelled across Canada by CNR troop train, picking up reinforcements enroute. Stops included Valcartier, Montreal, Ottawa, Armstrong ON, Capreol ON, Winnipeg, Melville SK, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Jasper, and Vancouver, arriving in Vancouver on Oct 27 at 0800 hrs.
The Winnipeg Grenadiers and the local soldiers that were with Brigade Headquarters from Winnipeg to BC travelled on a CPR train to Vancouver.
All members embarked from Vancouver on the ships AWATEA and PRINCE ROBERT. AWATEA was a New Zealand Liner and the PRINCE ROBERT was a converted cruiser. "C" Company of the Rifles was assigned to the PRINCE ROBERT, everyone else boarded the AWATEA. The ships sailed from Vancouver on Oct 27th and arrived in Hong Kong on November 16th, having made brief stops enroute at Honolulu and Manila.
Equipment earmarked for 'C' Force use was loaded on the ship DON JOSE, but would never reach Hong Kong as it was rerouted to Manila when hostilities commenced.
On arrival, all troops were quartered at Nanking Barracks, Sham Shui Po Camp, in Kowloon.

Nicholas (Nick) Stepanchuk of 160 Johnston St., Port, Colborne died at Port Colborne General Hospital Thursday, Dec. 3, 1987, in his 70th year. Born in St. Catharines, he was the son of the late Tanya and Eli Stepanchuk. He worked at International Nickel Company for 28 years, retiring in 1975. During the Second World War, he served overseas with the Royal Rifles Canada and was a prisoner of war in Hong Kong for four years. He was a member of the Inco Quarter Century Club, the Hong Kong Veterans Association and Branch 56 of the Royal Canadian Legion. Mr. Stepanchuk is survived by: his wife, Nellie Davison Stepanchuk; three sons, George of Ridgeway, Ward of Port Colborne and James of Edmonton, Alta; a daughter, Sharon of Edmonton; two sisters, Mrs. Anne Klukach and Mrs. Raymond Moreau (Olga), both of Port Colborne; a brother, George of Port Colborne; and three grandchildren. Mr. Stepanchuk is at the Davidson Funeral Homes, 135 Clarence St., Port Colborne where Rev. Graham Thorpe of St. Brendan's Anglican Church will conduct the service Saturday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Overholt Cemetery. Memorial contributions to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
