Telling the Story...
A Powerpoint Presentation

This is a fully scripted, multimedia presentation for a high school audience. It describes the events leading to Canada’s commitment of soldiers to the defence of Hong Kong, their travel to Hong Kong, the battle itself and the experiences of the soldiers as prisoners of war.

Teachers and students across the country have responded in both English and French to the challenges of the HKVCA Cross-Canada Writing Contest which has involved, as subjects, a chosen list of 5 soldiers who fought at the Battle of Hong Kong in 1941. The students were urged to look at one of the five, "Flash" Clayton, George MacDonell, John Osborn, Harry Atkinson, and the Newfoundland dog, Gander, who fought alongside the soldiers, and died in the battle.

Graeme Stacey has pioneered the inclusion of the Hong Kong material in classrooms in B.C. He has a passion for the Hong Kong veterans and we very much appreciate his allowing us to include his material and, with the permission of the B.C. Ministry of Education, the Resource Guide in our Teachers’ Zone.
