MANITOBA NEWSFLASH!

Very pleased to announce the winners of the first Veteran's Award at the 2010 Red River Regional Heritage Fair held at the University of Winnipeg, May 6.

Veteran's Award 2010 Red River Regional Heritage Fair - Kyle Martineau, Parisa Malihipour, Carol Hadley (presenter), Nicole NievesEach winner received a certificate from the sponsoring bodies, Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association, Winnipeg Rifles Museum and HMCS Chippawa.  Winner Nicole Nieves also received "One Soldier Story" from the Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association; winner Parisa Malihipour received a book from the Winnipeg Rifles and winner Kyle Martineau received a book, calendar and pen from Chippawa.

Canada is celebrating the 65th Anniversary of VE Day (the end of World War II in Europe) on May 8; VJ Day on August 15 (end of World War II with Japan) and the Canadian Navy is celebrating 100 years so it is fitting to begin the Veteran's Award marking these momentous occasions.

There were many participants in the veterans classification and the judging marks were very close which proves that these students (who have won at their individual schools) are interested in Canada's military history doing several hours of research to develop their projects.  Our military, in their service to Canada, have secured our rights and freedoms with their sacrifices which we will always remember.

Congratulations to the winners!

Carol Hadley
