CHRISTIE, Kathleen Georgina, Lieutenant (Nursing Sister), ARRC

Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps

Canada Gazette dated 10 June 1944 (No. 10, Vol. 78, p. 2404) and CARO/4568 dated 9 June 1944.

Nursing Sister Christie displayed outstanding devotion to duty in the Military Hospital at Hong Kong for eight months during the siege and capture of that island. After serving at Toronto Military Hospital from November 1940 until October 1941, without knowing her destination, she unhesitatingly volunteered for duty in a tropical climate and proceeded with the Hong Kong Expeditionary Force. After being a prisoner of war at Hong Kong foe eighteen months, Nursing Sister Christie has since returned to Canada. She is at present posted to No.2 Casualty Retraining Centre where she has recently been appointed as Nursing Sister in Charge. Her cheerfulness and attention to duty following her trying experiences impress all who come in contact with her.

WATERS, Anna May, Lieutenant (Nursing Sister) ARRC

Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps

Canada Gazette dated 10 June 1944 (No. 10, Vol. 78, p. 2404) and CARO/4568 dated 9 June 1944.

Nursing Sister Waters was appointed to the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps Nursing Service on 31 May 1940. She proceeded overseas with the Hong Kong Expeditionary Force and carried out all her duties during the siege of Hong Kong in an outstanding manner. On the capture of this island she was taken prisoner and was held from 28 December 1941 until 2 December 1943 when she was repatriated to Canada. Other repatriates who returned with this Nursing Sister spoke very highly of her care of them whilst in prison camp and on the return journey.

Lieutenant Waters returned to Hong Kong in September 1945 for the release of the Prisoners of War.  She was part of the nursing staff aboard the Canadian Hospital ship, HMCS Letitia.
