Brig.-Gen. (Ret.) Marc-André Bélanger and Les Voltigeurs de Québec extend an invitation to veterans and/or descendants of members of the Royal Rifles of Canada to a ceremony that will take place on Saturday, May 7, 2016, in Quebec City.
9 h to 10 h 30 – Mass at the Basélique Cathédrale Notre Dame
10 h 30 to 12 h - Buffet dinner – Vets and guests (guests are considered children, grand-children, immediate family members of a HKV (attending or not or deceased)).
13 h to 14 h 30 Parade on the Plaines d’Abraham.
15 h Cocktail for all Veterans and all Guests at the Chateau Laurier.
This would include people, friends of the legion, military or some from the public, that might like to talk to a HKV, find out more about HK etc etc On occasions like this people tend to be curious and ask questions.. This is a perfect occasion to mingle and educate the people.
A block of rooms has been reserved at the Chateau Laurier Quebec for May 6 and 7, 2016 for all HK Vets and their caregiver wanting to attend these celebrations and honours. To avoid any misunderstandings or confusion we would ask that all HK Vets planning to attend this event contact Lucette, as she will need to assign your name to the reserved room. If the caregiver is not rooming with the vet, the caregiver must make their own reservation with the hotel.
Adapted transportation will be available for all Vets and caregivers.
All other guests attending will be asked to make their own room reservations at the Chateau Laurier or other hotels of their choice, many within a short walking distance of the Chateau. See Quebec City Hotel Website.
Hotel Chateau Laurier Quebec
1220 Place George-V Ouest
Quebec City, G1R 5B8
Special recognitions, honours etc will be made to all Hong Kong Veterans for their great sacrifice to their Country on this 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Hong Kong.
The hotel, luncheon and cocktails are free for the Vets as well as adapted transportation to and from the events in Quebec City. However, the Vet is responsible for his own transportation to/from his home and Quebec City. The church, the lunch, the Plaines are all within walking distance of the Chateau Laurier.
We request that guests (meaning family members of a Vet) identify themselves to Lucette or Derrill at the Chateau Laurier at or before 8h30am before departure. This would greatly help us all to have the HK group of people together for all parts of this event including the transport, seating at church service place in parade, lunch and cocktail. If you have a uniform, membership pin etc do wear it.
If the caregiver does not stay in the same room as the Veteran they will have to pay for their own hotel room or if this caregiver wants to be close to the Vet you can register same time as the Vet and give these instructions, card #, expiry date and we will make the reservations close to the Vet and then confirm your reservation #. The caregiver is also entitled to the same benefits as stated above for the Veteran.
If a Vet has any food allergies, please mention this when registering with Lucette and it will be taken care of for the lunch.
